Cultural Demography/ Kultur der Demographie
Whereas demographic research to date is dominated by quantitative methodology and a biological terminology (fertility, mortality, lifespan etc.) referring to an abstract, constructed object, i.e. the ‘population’, the perspective of cultural demography argues for a ‘demography without numbers’ which addresses the human subjects of demography and actors of demographic relevant decisions (such as birthgiving). There exist some contributions, especially from anthropology that indicate this direction.
